Hydroponics, is it a rip off?

Hydroponics, is it  a rip off?

We see advertisements on ebay and online for this process of growing gardens.

The idea is using water that you've amended with nutrients with the idea of growing without dirt in a water environment.

Does it work to grow plants? Yes it does.
Is it easier? Well you have to build something like the above.
Is it healthier?
You will find tons of information on the web claiming it is just as good or better than soil, you'll also find all of this information is linked to $$$. A HUGE profit is being made in this industry all the way to the grant money given to universities to study it by the people selling the products. Don't kid yourself, this is all about profit and getting you to buy the apparatus shown above.
Our food evolved and grew in earth.
Taking the natural biological process of the soil out of the picture is not natural. You can't cry against GMO's in one breath then state that this is growing a natural plant. Time will prove it.

So is it a rip off?

The answer really comes down to what you want. Hydroponics is trying get away from dirt, if you hate earth's dirt, maybe this is the product for you.

If you want real organic health that is going back to the earth, then save your money and take the time to build up a real garden.
